Beacons and Church Towers

Recently, the Tower Stewardship Committee has received enquiries regarding safety advice for church beacons. Happily, Ecclesiastical Insurance has already developed some common-sense guidelines for church tower beacons. Please see:

RISK MANAGEMENT GUIDANCE: CHURCH TOWER BEACON

Essentially, as such beacons are fuelled by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), they present certain risks to health and safety, as well as potential damage to property.

If ringers are aware that their churches are planning such a beacon, the Tower Stewardship Committee strongly recommends that the relevant PCC refers to the advice given by Ecclesiastical, and perform their own assessment of the risks involved and the actions appropriate to manage those risks.
